Cheyenne

Cheyenne’s Story:

Unlike most of the Wild Ontario bird team, Cheyenne was bred in captivity. She hatched in 2012 and spent the first 12 years of her life working as an educational ambassador at another facility. When the time came to find a new home for Cheyenne, her previous caretakers entrusted us to care for her and continue providing opportunities for the public to be inspired by this incredible creature.

Within the first month, Cheyenne has grown comfortable in her new space and already seems eager to get back to work! With her previous experience in an educational setting, we have high hopes that Cheyenne will pick up her new training with a speed a peregrine knows well – fast, really fast.

Peregrine Falcons are the fastest animals to ever exist, with a highest recorded speed of 389km/hr in their stoop dive. Once an endangered species over much of its range, Peregrine Falcons help us share a conservation success story. After banning the use of the pesticide DDT, that was causing thin eggshells, peregrine populations have recovered tremendously. Now the best spot to find these speed machines are right in the middle of a city on tall buildings, which perfectly replicate their natural cliff nesting environment.

Cheyenne is a great representative for her species showing resiliency through changes, and we are confident she will be a crowd favourite in no time!
