Undergraduate Courses

We love teaching at a university level, and our position in the University of Guelph’s Department of Integrative Biology provides us the opportunity to do just that! We use our bird team, practical experience, and excitement for nature and science to enrich and augment student life and learning. Birds in the classroom are a hit for kindergarten and university students alike!

We currently participate in the following courses at the University of Guelph:

  • ZOO*2090 – Vertebrate Structure and Function
  • ZOO*4920 – Lab Studies in Ornithology
  • CRWR*2200 – Creative Nonfiction Workshop: Writing Nature

In any given semester, we are also mentoring a number of our student volunteers in BIOL*3660 – Internship in Biological Science.

BIOL*3650 – Applications in Biology: Communicating Science to the Public

For the winter semester of 2022 we developed and taught Communicating Science to the Public under the Applications in Biology course code. This course focuses on the skills and techniques needed to perform science outreach through public speaking, writing, signage, and less-traditional media. Students learn to tell stories, connect with audiences, convey messages, and affect change in the fight against science denial, misinformation, and fake news.

While the course is not currently being offered, we hope to teach it again soon. Be sure to check back for updates!
